good and…很，非常，完全、彻底
She drove good and fast.她车开得很快。
I won't go until I'm good and ready.我要完全准备就绪后才走。
The apples are good and ripe. 这些苹果完全成熟了。
通常用“and”來连接两个形容词时，是表示两个形容词的对等作用，但第一个形容词如果是“good”，“nice”，“fine”等词的话，当它和“and”结合起来时，便构成“well"或是“ nicely"对后面形容词或副词含义加强的意思。这种good, fine, nice, lovely，bright ，big和rare等分别加and构成了一个整体，“很”、“非常”、“极”，与very, entirely和completely或“ thoroughly”等词同义。
在美国口语中，这种表现法用得很多，是作为强调语( (intensifier)用的。例如:
good and sweet非常甜
good and cold非常冷
nice and cool非常凉爽
good and plenty非常多
这种结构不可把“ good and ripe”译成：又好又熟，它的原意实际是“ well ripe”(熟透)。通常都可改副词，如“ nice and cool”= nicely cool(凉爽）。
其中，“ lovely and warm”= delightedly warm(温暖)是女性用語。
例如：
I won't go until I'm good and ready.
我要完全准备就绪后才走。
She was good and angry.
她非常生气。
I pushed Bill good and hard.我用力推了一下比尔。（hard为副词）
She drove good and fast.她车开得很快。（fast为副词）
When it was good and dark, he left his home.
当天完全黑了时，他离开了家。
Lily is good and pretty. 莉莉十分美丽。
I am good and tired。我很疲倦。
It's good and cold out。外面很冷。
