公升（Liter）是公制（metric system）中的容积单位。
今天国家所用公升，是世界上绝大部分国家同样采用的法源公制(metric system)中的 公升(Liter)。
P。S。引进国际单位时对单位名称进行本土化，本土化“Liter”将旧制“升”字取来，加“公”字以作区分。后逐渐旧制升的单位被取缔，升字就成为公升简称，最后甚至直接不称公升而称升。（旧制单位从日常经济生活中完全消失）
一些老旧的资料未结合中国新纳国际公制（metric system）的历史事件，将 今天的“公升”直接当成 古代“升”（同名不同量）的巨大谬误至今仍在非学术界造成不良影响。
中国古代传统容积单位“升”和“公升”是完全不同的单位。此古升则是与“斗”和“石”为一制的粮食专用容积单位，古升的具体容积以当时时代封建政府规定的容器实物容量为标准。古代中国计量单位不同朝代又有换算上的差别，完全无法一口概括。有对古人粮食容积单位做研究的应该寻找考古方面资料。
公升的容量器皿
在科学技术不够发达、标准度量衡不够大众化的时代，民间普遍以“升、斗”等容量单位来 测量粮食的分量，这是时代的印记。
在这种计量体系中，一升是一斗的十分之一，一升米就是2000克（也就是4市斤）左右。
有很多文学作品中揭露了地主放高利贷采取了小升（斗）出，大升（斗）进的手段欺诈农民，反映了封建社会的剥削制度。

公升的容量单位
单位制单位，相当于一立方米（立方公尺）的千分之一。1升 = 0.001立方米
1升 = 1 立方分米
1升 = 1 000 毫升
1升 = 1 000 000 微升
1升 = 1 000 000 000 纳升
